We started on the wall. I gave a rousing speech, timed beautifully with the song O’ Fortuna. Zeekon summoned an avalanche upon the elven army while Alam cast down fireballs on the advancing bloodragers. However, the church officials were less impressed, and wanted to arrest us. The hierophant was there too, but he seemed very much indifferent to our presence.
We ignored them, and helped on the frontlines of the city’s defense for a while, until the clerics commanded the archers to shoot us. About half of them did, but that’s when our main man Hawkins stepped in. He took out the clerics and directed his troops to return to fighting the army. He beckoned us approach him, which we did. He told us he would lie to his commanding officers and tell them we had smoothed things over with the church so the hierophant would accept our aid.
We got to the Big Tent Headquarters and talked with the hierophant. He let us talk him into altering the evacuation plans, and told us that one Jeremiah Kirkwood had a plan to cripple the elven army. It involved using dried whale oil (read, gunpowder) to blow up the army from the tunnels below. We didn’t know the full scope of the plan yet, but a trip to see Hollowpot the Halfling filled in the gaps in our understanding.
We sent some troops in the tunnels to carry out the Gunpowder Plot, while we kept kicking ass and taking names above ground. Unfortunately, we were sent word that there was trouble brewing in the tunnels, and had to make a surprise guest appearance.
We found Hawkins and a Guy On Fire being attacked by elves. There was also some magical darkness. We defeated the elves, and Hawkins was Very Brave. He happily volunteered his life to connect the final gunpowder barrels to the main fuse. It turned out that he made it out alive, but when he left, it was understood that we might not be able to wait for him. This was largely because we were fighting Ohtar. We (Zeekon mostly) would have killed him, but he was teleported away by Crone (of the Stone Council) right before he died/we would have slit his throat (probably). Crone gave us a reverse teleportation beacon, but let us finish setting up the explosives.
Vlad took great pride in lighting the fuse and blowing six thousand elves to smithereens. We lit the fuse, and teleported away with Hawkins to see the blast. Right after we blew up what I believe is the Hall of the Gods, Zeekon saw a white dragon with blue(-ish) wings fly up and then give him a Look Of Disapproval.
The elven army, disorganized and greatly shaken by their losses, retreated, and Avalon was Saved By Gods.
We returned to the city as heros amid much fanfare and back-patting. We decided to take a rest and bask in the warm glow of a thankful city.
Oh, and we found out that Kirkwood is Fate. We were just about to talk to him (probably) when the session/season ended.
